Horsham Freemasons Food initiative delivers almost 320 hot meals

The ‘hot food on a Sunday’ initiative which was funded by Horsham Freemasons, with support from the Sussex Masonic Charitable Foundation, CIO, has run since May. Since then Freemasons, together with friends, wives, partners and relatives have delivered 318 hot Sunday lunches to those in need in the Horsham community. 14% of the meals were delivered to single adults and 86% to families and multiple adult households

The initiative brought together the cooking skills of Debra Moore, the Chef/Proprietor of The Café and the currently unused kitchens at the Normandy Centre, where Horsham Freemasons meet and where Debra is also the caterer, with the knowledge and understanding of local food bank, Horsham Matters and the initiative was very much appreciated by the people who received the meals.

‘Thank you very much for the lovely roast beef dinner you delivered today, it was so kind and thoughtful of you to do it.  If everyone in the world was like that we would live in a much nicer, beautiful world.  Thanks again god bless you’

‘I would like to thank you all for the lovely Sunday roast. Me and my family appreciated it’

Were just two of the many expressions of thanks received.  Peter Hansen, Chairman of the Normandy Centre, said “As Horsham Freemasons we were very pleased to be able to be a part of this wonderful initiative to support our Horsham community.  It has been such a great way to support those in need in our area, particularly the elderly and vulnerable, and some of the reactions of those receiving the food have been truly humbling”.

The initiative has now ended, but thoughts are now turning to plans to continue working with Horsham Matters to provide food support in the autumn.
